A Mille Ce N'è: The Stories We Spin
From childhood fables to the soundtracks of our lives, join us at ElitaBar to discover how vinyl holds our most treasured narratives...
Some stories stay with us for a lifetime. The ones we were told as children, under the covers, in hushed voices and gentle rhythms, as if sleep were just around the corner. And then there are the stories we discover later, etched into the grooves of a record, hidden in the notes of a song that feels like it was written just for us. These tales become personal soundtracks that define precise moments, fragments of memory intertwined with music.
In Italy, an entire generation grew up listening to the fairy tales of A Mille Ce N’è, the legendary series of children’s records published by Fabbri Editori between the ’60s and ’80s. Warm, enveloping voices—among them the iconic Silverio Pisu—transformed traditional fairy tales into immersive soundscapes, accompanied by orchestral music and sound effects that amplified the magic of storytelling. Each record was a portal into a different world, bringing to life classic fables such as Pinocchio, Little Red Riding Hood, and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves with a cinematic depth that predated modern audiobooks.
What made A Mille Ce N’è so special was its ability to merge narrative tradition with cutting-edge sound design for its time. The atmospheric scores, sometimes whimsical and other times eerie, heightened the emotional pull of each tale, making them unforgettable. These records weren’t just for passive listening—they invited children to dream, visualize scenes in their minds, and engage with storytelling in a way that felt deeply personal.
Today, these records are more than just collector’s items—they are pieces of a shared imagination, a testament to how vinyl can hold and transmit stories, just as the music we love does. And it is from this idea that our next evening takes shape: a gathering dedicated to the narratives that live within records, the memories they evoke, and the culture they continue to inspire.
Sali e Tabacchi Journal, in collaboration with Massimo Alba, invites you to an evening of deep listening, storytelling, and discovery. Through shared anecdotes, music, and a special DJ set curated by us, we’ll explore the evocative power of vinyl, letting the stories carved into its grooves guide us.
